──── BUSINESS STUDIES ────
OVERVIEW
As Business Studies covers a vast range of topics from; how businesses need to adapt their marketing to operate in a dynamic business environment, to analysing corporate objectives and strategies against financial and non-financial performance. We thought it would be a good idea to focus on two particular areas that can have a huge impact on the way a business operates and the decisions that an entrepreneur may have to make, for the good of their business.
Social trends - can be defined as any type of activity that is participated in by society as a whole. It may be long-lasting or short-lived, for example a ‘fad’. Facebook and Twitter introduced a new social trend by introducing a new way to connect with people from far and near.
External factors - elements that influence a business' results and performance from the outside. These factors are often part of the economic, political and social environment of the locations where the company operates. An example of an external factor may be a recession.
Both social trends and external factors are areas that are considered throughout all four themes that make up the course. A business must understand how particular social trends may impact the way they advertise their products, or how they estimate sales levels at a particular time of the year. Businesses must also be aware of external factors, and how the risk of something such as a recession, or a natural disaster will impact a business’s operations and potentially their future chances for growth.
